EKTT Event 2

Players and spectators gather for EKTT's second event at Paintsville

EKTT's second event at the Paintsville Recreation Center was a success as we were joined by Jonathan Howard, a 10-time EKTT League Champion, and his brother Wesley Howard, a six-time EKTT Division II Champion.  Current Division II Champion Dewey "The Enforcer" Moore also returned at the event.  It looks like Dewey and Brad Mullins are going to have one of the year's best rivalries based on their match at Event 2.

EKTT would also like to welcome Steve Thaman to the league.  Steve is an experienced player who is going to help build EKTT's promising future.  It's great to have him on board.  Steve and Wesley Howard had a battle that went to the seventh game in a challenge match that saw Steve emerge victorious.

According to the EKTT Board of Directors, official league play will begin soon, possibly as early as this week, or next week.  A new format must be approved before title matches, and official USATT League matches can take place.

EKTT is looking for players in the Paintsville, Prestonsburg, and Pikeville areas!  We are preparing a facebook launch, no later than the end of May, and we need your help to get the word out to potential players in these areas.  Remember, new players are welcome as well.  We are open to the public.

We want to thank everyone at the Paintsville Recreation Center for the continued support of our league during what has been a historic transition.

Eastern Kentucky Table Tennis launches first event at the Paintsville Recreation Center

EKTT held its first ever meet at the Paintsville Recreation Center on Sunday, May 6, 2012.  The staff at the PRC was very gracious and helped to set up the equipment and seating for the meet.  There were 12 players present, and everyone had a great time.  Paintsville Mayor Bob Porter graciously dropped by to offer his support for our organization.  EKTT President Byron Risner said that the league will not be processing USATT League ratings for the first meet.  In addition, EKTT will not be holding doubles play during the month of May.  The EKTT Board has decided to play titles (championships) once a month at a special league event, where winners would take home an award for their accomplishment of retaining or winning the championship.

“Our main priority for the first month of play is to get new players accustomed to the league, and teach beginners how to play the sport,” says President Risner.  “We are still in the process of getting sponsors, which could change the entire landscape of our organization.  We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time of transition and change.  We are excited about the league's future, and look forward to having a long and prosperous association with the Paintsville Recreation Center.”

EKTT wants everyone to know that we have a place for beginning, intermediate, and advanced players.  The current format is open play, no player may play more than two straight matches at one table, which allows us to grant everyone as a whole more playing time.

EKTT now has three table tennis tables as a new Sportcraft arrived on Tuesday.  President Risner says that the club is in the process of acquiring new tournament grade equipment, and will purchase the equipment when the club has sufficient funding and sponsorship.

Club name officially changed to Eastern Kentucky Table Tennis; first meeet at the Paintsville Recreation Center is Sunday, May 6 from 4 to 7 pm

The club Board of Directors officially changed the name of our organization to Eastern Kentucky Table Tennis on April 29, 2012.  "We felt that with our new move to Paintsville, and our relaunch of the club, that this was the perfect time to brand ourselves Eastern Kentucky Table Tennis," says EKTT Chairman Byron Risner.  "It better reflects the area we serve, which will help us in terms of recognition, recruitment, and prestige.  We are incredibly excited to partner up with the Paintsville Recreation Center and its Director Scott Hale to bring table tennis to the heart of Eastern Kentucky."

The big move takes place on Sunday, May 6, with playing time going from 4 to 7 pm.  The club will start out with two tables (having lost everything in West Liberty as a result of the tornado).  The Board wants everyone to know that more tables will be aquired in the coming weeks as the club gains sufficient funding.  GPTT is currently seeking out sponsors from the business community in Paintsville.

EKTT wants to encourage current and prospective players to communicate and give us feedback on Facebook and via email (gpttky@gmx.com).  We have a link on our page to the Paintsville Rec. Center on Facebook.
